2028 Application Cycle | Letter Request Deadline
Deadline to Request Required Letters of Evaluation in MAP
DUE march 1, 2027, for First-Time Applicants
Note: to participate in the Application Readiness Program and, if applicable, Letter Packet service ALL requirements must be completed by the indicated deadlines!
If you plan to apply with a Northeastern University Letter Packet, all required letters of evaluation must be requested through your Medical Applicant Portal (MAP) by March 1, 2027. This deadline applies to requesting letters—not receiving them.
Internal Faculty Letters (Required)
You must request three (3) internal faculty letters of evaluation that meet the following criteria:
- Be written by a current, former, or retired Northeastern University faculty member.
- Be based on a graded Northeastern course (minimum 3-credit lecture or 1-credit laboratory).
- The primary author must be the course instructor of record who assigned your grade.
- Letters may be requested from courses currently in progress.
- Two of the three required letters must be from Biology, Chemistry, Math, or Physics (BCMP) faculty.
- The third required letter may come from a faculty member in any academic discipline. A non-BCMP letter is strongly encouraged and may be required by some health professions programs.
External Clinical Letter (Required)
You must request one (1) external clinical/clinician letter of evaluation. You may also request up to two additional optional external letters, for a maximum of three external letters in your Letter Packet. The required clinical letter must:
- Be written by a U.S.-licensed physician (MD or DO), dentist (DDS/DMD), or podiatrist (DPM) in the profession to which you are applying.
- Reflect a college-level clinical experience and should ideally be based on direct, in-person patient care.
- Be based on an experience completed in the United States, or, if abroad, through a U.S. State Department, U.S. university or hospital-sponsored program, or another recognized U.S. organization.
Hopefully, you’ve already begun conversations with potential letter writers. If not, now is the time!
If you have questions about selecting or requesting letters, please review the Letters of Evaluation webpage for additional guidance.
