Coursework & Transcripts

Accurate coursework entry is an essential part of completing your primary application to health professional school. Application services use the academic information you provide—including institutions attended, courses completed, course grades, credit hours, and transcripts—to review and verify your academic record. Because coursework entry requirements can vary by application platform and may not always mirror how information appears on your transcript, it is important to carefully follow application-specific instructions and enter your academic history accurately and completely. Taking the time to understand these requirements can help prevent verification delays, reduce errors, and ensure that your application reflects your academic record as intended.

Academic History

Applicants to health professional programs must report all U.S. colleges and universities where they were enrolled as a student. If you completed coursework abroad, please see the Study Abroad Coursework section below for guidance on reporting international institutions and coursework.

Accurately reporting all colleges/schools attended and submitting all required official transcripts are essential steps in the primary application process. Missing institutions, incomplete academic history, or incorrectly submitted transcripts can delay application processing and verification.

For each U.S. institution reported on your application, request an official transcript and have it sent directly to the appropriate application service. Northeastern University students can request their official transcript through the Northeastern University Registrar via Parchment.

In the video below, we walk through how to report colleges attended and request transcripts for AMCAS and LiaisonCAS application services (AACOMAS, ADEA AADSAS, CASPA, VMCAS, OptomCAS, and AACPMAS).

Coursework Entry

Applicants should enter their coursework exactly as it appears on the official transcript from each institution where the credit was earned, ensuring that their primary application reflects their complete college-level coursework history.

In this video, we walk through how to enter and review coursework in AMCAS and LiaisonCAS applications, with specific guidance for navigating Northeastern specific coursework (such as Co-Op and PlusOne coursework) and other common cases (such as AP credit and in-progress coursework).

If you have additional questions about your coursework entry on the primary application after watching the video, please review the sections below.

Applicants should select the course classification/subject that most accurately represents the primary content of the course. Some courses may reasonably fall within more than one category; it is up to the applicant to determine the course subject/classification they would like to highlight to the admissions committee.

We encourage applicants to use the relevant resources below to help determine the best classification/subject for each course:

  • LiasonCAS: Course Subject Lists can be found in the application specific Help Center (linked in the section below), under “Academic History”
  • Internal Science Letters: If a science letter in your NU Letter Packet is based on an approved internal science course, classify the course under the BCMP subject area most closely aligned with the course content, as indicated on the Internal Science Letters page.

Some schools’ secondary applications ask applicants to identify which courses on their transcript fulfill specific prerequisite requirements. In LiaisonCAS applications, this step may appear within the Program Materials section of the primary application but is treated as a secondary application requirement.

Because course titles and curricular structures vary across institutions, focus on the content of the course rather than an exact title match when selecting coursework to meet a prerequisite.

For additional guidance on matching your coursework to health graduate program prerequisites, visit our Secondary Applications webpage.

How you report study abroad coursework on your health graduate program application depends on the institution that transcripts your coursework and how that institution is recognized by the centralized application service.

Review the video below to identify the institution type that applies to your study abroad experience. Then, follow the corresponding instructions for reporting the institution, entering coursework, and submitting any required transcripts or transcript evaluations.
