Internal Science Letters
Health professional programs typically distinguish between science and non-science courses. Science courses are generally those offered by a university’s Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Physics (BCMP) departments. However, courses from other academic departments may also cover content predominantly based in the BCMP disciplines.
Our program has reviewed the courses listed below and determined that at least 75% of their instruction is rooted in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Physics. Therefore, we will accept letters of evaluation associated with these courses as science (BCMP) letters for our Program’s Letter of Evaluation Services (e.g., Letter Packet). However, this DOES NOT necessarily mean that you can utilize these courses towards fulfillment of schools’ prerequisites in any of these subjects. Please consult your PreHealth Advisor regarding how, and if, you can utilize any of these courses towards satisfaction of program course requirements.
While a Letter Packet often satisfies the letter requirements for most programs, applicants are responsible for reviewing the specific requirements of each school, as they vary. If one or more of your science letters is based on an approved internal science course, ensure that you classify the course in your primary application under the BCMP department most aligned with its content. Some programs may use this classification to assess whether the letter meets their requirements.
If you have taken a course that you believe should be considered for inclusion on the listing below, or if you have completed a Directed Study, research Capstone, or independent research course you would like to be considered toward a BCMP letter requirement, please email PMPH@Northeastern.edu with a 1–2 paragraph rationale and the course syllabus.
