2019 Summer Scholars Independent Research Fellowships Announced

The University Scholars Program and the Office of Undergraduate Research and Fellowships are proud to announce the winners of this year’s Summer Scholars Independent Research Fellowships, the university’s most robust award for students taking on research and creative projects requiring the greatest degree of independence and sophistication.

Finding Inspiration in a Dominican Shanty Town

Patten will use her Fulbright to teach English in Spain as a means to bolster her Spanish-speaking skills. Once armed with her newfound fluency, Patten plans to teach English to “vulnerable populations in the United States,” she said. Patten also plans to parlay what she learns in Spain into her own education-based social enterprise.
