Our Program

Leadership Opportunities

So many of our students are interested in staying involved with the program that supported them in their first year, and we offer two direct pathways to leadership positions for former General Studies students.

Writing Tutor for ENGW1110 & ENGW1111

Tutors support General Studies Program writing classes through in-class demonstrations and meetings and one-on-one appointments out of class. Tutors are typically recommended by their English instructor to the Peer Tutoring Program and must apply through the Peer Tutoring Program website. If you are interested in being a Writing Tutor, please contact your English instructor.

Peer Mentor

Peer Mentors support first-year General Studies students in GENS1101 & GENS1102 classes and through out-of-class activities. In order to apply, students must have achieved sophomore status by the end of their first year, earn a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher, and be available to attend all mandatory trainings, weekly meetings, information sessions, and weekly GENS1101/1102 seminar (for those selected to be in-class mentors). More information about the application process will be distributed in March.
