Transition to Major

Overview

General Studies students will work with their advisor to identify the change of major requirements for their intended major and ensure they are making progress toward that major.

In their second semester, students complete a Destination College Form and meet with the advisor in their destination college to discuss their transition and sophomore year schedule.

At the end of the spring semester, students are reviewed for acceptance into their intended major. Students who meet the requirements as outlined on the Registrar’s Change of Major site are accepted into the major.

Students who are unable to transition to their major at the end of their first year can remain in General Studies for a third semester. These students will work with their advisor to continue making progress towards their intended major, if appropriate, or to identify a different academic path.
