Opportunity Description
The Dragon Prayer Book research team accepts new members on a rolling basis. You can join one of our existing projects, or create your own project tailored to your interests in consultation with faculty advisor Dr. Erika Boeckeler (English). Ongoing research includes:
*deciphering the manuscript's many abbreviations to establish what texts the manuscript contains,
*bioarchaeological work on the page's dirt patterns to establish which pages readers read most frequently,
*analysis of the manuscript's binding and metal clasps to determine what styles were used and whether they may used to pinpoint where the manuscript was rebound, *research into the pictures stamped into the binding's leather covers to determine point of origin
*historical research into the provenance of the manuscript (who owned it when and where and at what time)
*historical research into the convent life of its original owners
*musicological research into the manuscript's medieval chants
Our team has included majors from English , Biology , Political Science, Engineering, Computer Science, History, & Graphic Arts. Team members have been the recipients of numerous grants, including Provost's Awards, various Honors Program awards, Humanities Center funding, and Undergraduate Research Initiative Awards (CSSH).

No prior experience with manuscripts nor knowledge of Latin or German (the two languages in the manuscript) necessary.
Minimum GPA: 2.5
