About
Jodi Robertson discovered a passion for scuba diving in high school, when she took her first dive on a trip to Colombia. Now a certified dive master with more than 100 logged dives, Robertson is focused on protecting marine ecosystems. Disheartened to discover that scuba diving can be detrimental to marine habitats, Robertson earned a Scholars Independent Research Fellowship to study effective methods for educating divers to reduce their impact.
Based on this research, Robertson began developing Raising Fins, a program to educate others about sustainable diving practices. She will use the Millennium Oceans Prize’s $5,000 award to further the work of Raising Fins—creating a set of principles to promote environmentally conscious dives and working with dive certification agencies worldwide to implement them.
