Take 5: Student artwork on display

Look around Northeastern’s campus, and artwork is all around you—from indoor exhibits to sculptures throughout the quads. The university regularly hosts public art shows, artists-in-residence programs and other art-themed events. This spring, a beautiful new mural adjacent to the Curry Student Center kicked off the university’s new public art initiative, which will provide faculty, students, alumni and guest artists with campus space to create exciting artwork that inspires the community and beyond.

Student art is an essential component to the works featured across campus. Here’s a rundown of where you can find artwork produced by Northeastern students:

Gallery 360:
The 1,000-square-foot gallery, located within a corridor between the Curry Student Center and Ell Hall, hosts about 20 shows a year and regularly features students’ work. One of these shows is the annual Senior Exhibition in the spring. The International Village lobby also hosts Gallery 360 shows.

Ryder Hall:
From paintings and photographs to sculptures and light installations, Ryder Hall is chock full of students’ work throughout the year.

Project Art Lift:
New to campus this fall is an installation called Project Art Lift, which features reproductions of the works of students, alumni and faculty in the elevators at six campus sites: Columbus Place, the Curry Student Center, Snell Library, the Marino Center, and the Egan Research Center. The artwork covers the doors and walls of the elevators, and it will rotate throughout the sites every two months.

Meserve Hall: CAMD Art Walk and Open House
On Thursday from 3–4:30 p.m., students in the College of Arts, Media and Design are encouraged to stop by the college’s Office of Academic Advising and Cooperative Education located at 100 Meserve for the CAMD Art Walk and Open House. The exhibition features CAMD students’ photographs that reflect the theme of global engagement through co-op, study abroad, Dialogue of Civilizations programs and more. Students can enjoy refreshments as they peruse the gallery, vote for their favorites and say hello to their academic adviser and co-op coordinator. The exhibition will also be up through the entire academic year for the entire Northeastern community to come by and see.

West Village H:
A new exhibit in West Village H this fall features photos from the streets of Cuba that were taken by students on the Dialogue of Civilizations program this summer. There is an opening reception for the exhibit on Monday, Sept. 29 at 5 p.m. The exhibit marks the first collaboration between the College of Arts, Media and Design’s photography program and Northeastern’s new public art initiative.
