Jacobs Nominated for Carnegie Endowment for International Peace’s Gaither Junior Fellows Program

Northeastern University is proud to have nominated Alexandra Jacobs CSSH’22 for the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace’s James C. Gaither Junior Fellows Program. The fellowship offers recent college graduates the opportunity to work for one year in the Washington office of the Carnegie Endowment, a major international affairs think tank. Fellows provide research assistance for senior scholars at Carnegie and  participate in the broader intellectual life of the Carnegie Endowment.

An international affairs and history major with a distinguished academic record, Jacobs’ areas of academic interest include human rights, migration law, and imperialism and colonialism. In April 2021, she completed an honors thesis in international affairs that examined the experiences of LGBTQ+ and environmental migrants within the current international refugee and human rights regime; at present, she is at work on a history honors thesis entitled “The ‘Gross Indecency’ of Imperialism: How the British and Irish Used Sexuality Scandals to Advance Political Aims.” In addition to pursuing these projects, Alexandra has served as a research assistant in Northeastern’s History Department and at Queen’s University Belfast, where she worked with a psychology research group studying children born in societies in which protracted conflicts have taken place. She has also authored articles on the potential implications of the student vote in the UK’s December 2019 general election and the historical evolution of LGBTQ+ Pride events for the Northeastern University Political Review, a publication for which she currently serves as Managing Editor.
